Lets get closer to nature by noticing the nature around us. Nature offers remarkable elements that can be taken into study within our daily homeschool.
We had a great time learning Alhamdulillah creating our very own Phenology Wheel, which only completed recently. This nature based project took us the longest Masha Allah. 1 whole year. An entire year because this project had to be done each month spending time in nature and then journalling the observations into art in the created wheel.
The Idea that executed well AH;
My kids enjoy being outdoors and what’s not to appreciate in nature? The weather in Saudi Arabia gets cooler from October onwards alhamdulillah and so towards the end of last year we began creating our very own phenology wheel.
For this single project, I have been really excited to start and finish with O. Instead, it taught us more things how to pause, notice, comprehend and introspect in most subtle ways.
Our outdoor evening strolls turned into adventurous nature walks where we began noticing and observing the differences it catered each month.
We began with making a wider circle on an A3 watercolour paper. We then made 12 wedges as we decided to work on 12 months. For this particular project O wanted to do watercolouring though she gave final touches with pencil colours and markers aswell.

Observations:
Slight change in seasons , surrounding climate and colours was observed overall since a few months were also spent in the eastern region of the kingdom so O also observed noticeable difference in the eastern and western regional eco systems.
This phenology wheel served us greatly in understanding that;
1) Some projects take long
2) It’s better to pause when the project is long
3) Nature study involves observation, noticing ecosystems and seasonal colours
4) Each month is different and His creation entirely
Phenology wheel can be embedded in science, arts, geography and nature study and will look different each year. This is a fantastic addition in your next nature based study.
Remember us in your prayers till we write about our next project learning. Insha Allah .
